David Koresh, born Vernon Wayne Howell, was the leader of the Branch Davidians, a sect that emerged from the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Koresh's beliefs were complex, and he claimed to be the final prophet, chosen to interpret and reveal the true meaning of the Bible.
He believed he had a unique and divinely appointed role in interpreting scripture, leading his followers to salvation.
